BILLY THE KID
BILLY THE KID- Billy the kid was born William Henry McCarthy, jr. He also used the name William H Bonney. He was said to be around 5 ft 9 and left handed. He was a great dresser and had a way with the ladies. The kid was great with the pistol. His 2 main weapons he used, as legend has it, were his Windchester Carbine rifle and his Colt revolver. McCarthy was supposedly born in New York on November 23, 1859 and died at the age of 21 on July 14th, 1881. He is best known for being at the center of the famous Lincoln county war. He is thought to have been shot to death by sherrif Pat Garrett. There is a second theory on Billy and it goes like this: Garrett shot another guy and the kid got away. Years after Pat Garrett supposedly killed Billy, a man named Brushy Bill Roberts claimed to be William H. Bonney, so the legend and mystic of the kid is as strong as ever. Many films, documentaries and books have been made about Billy the Kid over the years. Billy the Kid was known for horse robbing, stealing, armed robbery and murder. One of the most famous Billy the kid incidents was portrayed in the movie Young Guns in which Billy gets arrested but ends up killing two policemen and escaping jail. Legend has it he called 21 men but realistically historians estimate he shot and killed 9 or 10 men. They say he was left handed, had a way with the ladies and was a fancy dresser. His fame skyrocketed after New Mexicos Governor put a $5ooo bounty on his head.Wanted dead or alive it said. Billy the kid was considered an outlaw by some and a hero by others. He formed a band of undesirables called the regulators whose job was to arrest the wrong doers but as we all know Billy did not take prisoners. William Bonneys most famous quote was to the Las Vegas Gazzette, he said I dont blame you for writing of me as you have. You had to believe other stories, but then I dont know if any one would believe anything good of me anyway. Billy the kid was known to be fast with the pistol and even more fast and fond of the rifle. He was loved by many for his rebellion of the law and folks were impressed when he escaped from the jail house where he was awaiting to be transferred. On the other hand he had just as many who wanted him put to death by hanging not for stealing horses but for cold bloodied murder. Billy lived a short but fascinating and mysterious life. For every person who wanted him killed, at least one thought of him as a super hero, there James Dean if you will. If there is one thing William H Bonney was it was a rebel without a cause.
